I spent this weekend continuing my support for OpenStreetMap. This really is a fantastic community effort. After scanning around Perth I noticed there were lots of suburbs either unmapped or where the major roads were mapped, but unnamed.
A total of 5 hours of time over the weekend and now

It appears the MotionX elevation update is definitely an iPhone issue and not MotionX after more testing. Also it does appear that the iPhone accuracy gets better when you’re out in the clear. Mapybe the iPhone’s satellite reception isn’t that great!?

My recent find of MotionX got me using OpenStreetMap more and more. I’ve used it before along with it’s counterpart OpenCycleMap, but always reverted to Google due to the maps being limited. OK, so further testing. I drove around the block 3 times tonight recording the route with 3 different applications.
- MotionX
- RubiTrack for iPhone
- iMapMyRide
For some reason iMapMyRides export to GPX dropped the elevation information so I don’t have that to share. The graphs below show RubiTrack and MotionX. Both are different which I didn’t expect [...]
