So I bought the Munda Biddi maps today. I intend to start riding the northern parts on the MTB over the next few weeks. Now, if you’ve read my post before you’ll know I like mapping and contributing to OpenStreetMap. My dilemma is this, should I trace Munda Biddi with my Garmin and map it [...]

I’ve discussed routable maps for my Garmin Edge 705 before and the way of downloading and even combining with topo maps. Well last week I found another fantastic site where the developer is creating routable maps for Garmin devices. But what makes this better is they are pre-packaged work with Garmin MapInstall and RoadTrip on [...]

I know I’m meant to write up a review of the shiny new toy… my Garmin Edge 705, but I’ll use it for a couple of weeks and then write up after I’ve used it for a while. However, you may be aware of my passion for OpenStreetMaps and so I bought the Garmin without [...]

Today was another venture back into the hills with Craig. I was feeling up for it and chose a route off MapMyRide that another local cycling group are intending to ride tomorrow (no I won’t be doing it again tomorrow!). I uploaded the route onto my new Garmin 705 (that’s another post) so we could [...]

I stumbled upon BikeRouteToaster quite by accident. I’m considering buying a Garmin Edge 705 to replace my 305. I was watching a great video on Youtube (found here) in which BHeiland uses the site to create a route for his 705.
So what does it do? Well it’s similar to sites like MapMyRide, but without all [...]

So yesterday afternoon I called Garmin to ‘enquire’ as to the whereabouts of my knackered Edge 305 only to lost all faith in their support. Today, I receive a brand new unit with a nice letter. Shame it had to get slightly heated, but in the end…. well done Garmin! Bravo!
So… anyone want to buy [...]

I called Garmin on 5th June and explained the issues with my Edge 305. It’s well out of warranty and they flat refused to repair it under warranty. So I agreed to pad $109 to get a refurbished one and sent my unit off. The guy in support quoted 10 days turn around. No bad. [...]

I’ve not updated for a while but thought I’d just post a few things that have been going on. Work’s been taking most all my time over the last week. I managed to cycle for 4 days last week. I got soaked twice a day every day which introduced new challenges. I’ve never cycled through [...]

I spent this weekend continuing my support for OpenStreetMap. This really is a fantastic community effort. After scanning around Perth I noticed there were lots of suburbs either unmapped or where the major roads were mapped, but unnamed.
A total of 5 hours of time over the weekend and now
North Perth – Mapped and all roads [...]

It appears the MotionX elevation update is definitely an iPhone issue and not MotionX after more testing. Also it does appear that the iPhone accuracy gets better when you’re out in the clear. Mapybe the iPhone’s satellite reception isn’t that great!?
During yesterday’s ride out to the hills, I recorded this elevation profile with MotionX and [...]
