About me
I’ve been living in Perth since 2006. A colleague introduced me to the idea of commuting to work by bike so I bought a second hand Avanti Corsa Carbonio from a guy in Perth via the TRIWA website in 2007. I cycled on and off for 18 months until in October 2008 I started cycling regularly again and just caught the cycling bug in a big way. I bought a Malvern Star Oppy (Le Mauco) in that October and started riding with groups at the weekend as well as commuting. I ride out irregularly with Cyclemania on Saturday morning’s in the Intermediate group which is a nice enough pace.
My major goals for this year is to achieve
10,000kms in 2009 (In progress)
First imperial century – 100mile ride (Done!)
Average > 36kph in the Perth Great Bike Ride (106kms distance)
Last year I averaged 34kph in the Perth GBR which wasn’t bad for some so new to riding.
I want to get in to street riding. I have a mountain bike that I’ve been riding for the past 10 yrs but would like to get into semi-serious riding. Can you suggest a decent bike under $500 if one exists? Thanks man.
Sorry Michael, I’m relatively new to cycling really. I would try a few different local bike stores and see what they recommend and if there is a concensus of opinion. You might find buying second-hand will get you a really good bike for $500.

10000kms in a year? Wow, I was going to set 5200km for 2010 for my goal, but 10000 is just insane. How you going so far?
