Today was another venture back into the hills with Craig. I was feeling up for it and chose a route off MapMyRide that another local cycling group are intending to ride tomorrow (no I won’t be doing it again tomorrow!). I uploaded the route onto my new Garmin 705 (that’s another post) so we could follow it accurately. We did, sort of. I was busy chatting to Craig and hadn’t noticed we were following the route in reverse.

Perth - Welshpool Rd - Mundaring loop
The route took us up Welshpool Rd which I’ve not attempted before. It’s a steeper route into the hills that my normal Brookton Hwy route, but that makes it shorter too so it was not too bad. However, whereas that’s normally all the climbing over. Today that was just the start. As you can see from the elevation profile below there were a number of climbs and in total over 1300m of climbing. By the end of it, I was f… tired. Craig was whipping up and down like a welsh lamb however, so I definitely need to do this more and harden up.

Elevation profile
This ride also took us through unmapped territory on OpenStreetMap, so I’ll upload a trace later and get that added to OSM. I really enjoyed this ride (thanks Craig) even if I am bleating like a sheep about it and feeling grumpy because my legs ache. Can’t wait to do it again. Just not tomorrow….

Great ride all up. Loved the hills and really starting to get my appreciation for them back. I have trouble on the flats your straight line speed is hard to match, but I got ya on those hills
