An odd week

I’ve not updated for a while but thought I’d just post a few things that have been going on. Work’s been taking most all my time over the last week. I managed to cycle for 4 days last week. I got soaked twice a day every day which introduced new challenges. I’ve never cycled through winter before being a bit of a fair weather cyclist. My wet weather gear isn’t the best either. My challenge was how to dry everything that got wet. I have a water resistant jacket so my upper body and hence jersey and base layers stayed quite dry. My shorts, leggings, socks and show however didn’t! Shoes just remained the problem through the week until Thursday when I bought some over shoes. An immediate bonus. Now my shoes and socks stay pretty dry too. Shorts, well I use my state of the art, micro-processor enhanced thermo-blower AKA PC for that. Yes, hanging your shorts over the back of a hot PC works a treat. Luckily I sit in a sort of cubicle that means nobody has to see my damp shorts drying over my PC.

Most days have been up at 5am, into work by 6.30am and home around 8pm to work some more. Friday I made an exception and went in late. 8.30am. Reason – iPhone 3GS launched in Australia and I had to have one! :)

This weekend I’ve managed no cycling, what with a combination of really crap weather and having to work all day…. again, but I have managed a couple of breaks and in that time I’ve done some more work on OpenStreetMap. Mainly correcting/adding street names around the local area I’d noticed were wrong. I think someone had labelled one road incorrectly then proceeded to name each parallel street incorrectly. An easy mistake to make and the reason so much care needs to be taken. I only noticed by chance when reviewing a GPS trace from last week.

Righto, back to work. Hopefully my week will get easier after Wednesday and also I hope to resume cycling next weekend!

  1. G’day

What overshoes did you get? Also removing the insert and stuffing your shoes with newspaper gets them drying quite well between rides.
